Laser cutting

Precision cutting for steel, aluminum, brass, and copper, whether the requirement is a straight cut, an intricate profile, or complex geometry.

What it is

Fiber laser & tube laser

At The Metal Shop, we provide precision cutting solutions for a wide range of materials, including steel, aluminum, brass, and copper. Our advanced equipment allows us to meet exact customer specifications. Fiber laser is high-speed, high-precision cutting with exceptional edge quality on metals; tube laser is specialized for cutting round, square, and structural tubing with tight tolerances.

Why choose these services

  • Material versatility: ferrous and non-ferrous metals can be processed.
  • Accuracy: state-of-the-art systems deliver precision parts ready for downstream fabrication.
  • Efficiency: rapid turnaround times supported by automation and optimized workflows.
  • Scalability: a proven track record with both one-off projects and high-volume production.

Done after cutting

  • Press brake forming, up to 12′ and .75″ thickness
  • Welding: TIG, MIG, laser
  • CNC machining and milling
  • Assembly
  • Edge finishing, deburring, sanding
  • PEM inserts, weld nuts
  • Hole reaming, tapping, countersinking

Capabilities

Equipment6000 kW fiber laser, 4000 kW CO2 laser
MaterialsMild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, acrylic, tool steel, titanium, spring steel
Sheet size60″ × 120″ tables. Actual sheet processing sizes need to be slightly less than the table size to account for the borders needed.
Thickness rangeSteel .010″ – 1″
Aluminum .020″ – .750″
Stainless .010″ – 1″
Acrylic up to .250″
Special materials up to .375″
TolerancesThe fiber laser can hold .002″, depending on the feature to be cut and the material thickness. There is no such thing as +/− 0 on a laser. If you need a closer tolerance, we can put the part on our CNC mills as a secondary process.
AutomationAn 8-shelf automation tower lets us cut continuously without stopping to change material, which makes lead times quicker for a large number of sheets.
File formatsSTEP, DXF, Parasolid, DWG, plus a PDF drawing of the part or assembly with dimensions
NestingParts are nested for the best material usage and the fastest cut times
Surface etchingThe fiber laser can etch numbers and logos. It works best on stainless and can be done on steel and aluminum to differing degrees.
